Wow. What more can I say?
Four months ago, we launched the 50 Grand Women Fund. It was a simple idea – if 50 women each donated $1000, we could create a $50,000 donor-advised fund within the Grand Bend Community Foundation. That meant the group could decide every year how the income from the fund was invested in local charities.
Frankly, we didn’t know if it would work. There’s been nothing like it in the past. But we do know that women are playing an increasingly important role in philanthropy across Canada.
In part, that’s because women’s personal income and wealth have increased. It’s also a reflection of the fact that women are enthusiastic donors and volunteers. Research suggests that women are most likely to prefer causes such as poverty reduction, health, children, women’s rights, and education. We also know that women are thorough when choosing which charities to support and want an ongoing relationship with those charities.
So we’re deeply honored that so many women have already chosen to contribute to the 50 Grand Women Fund and be part of this dynamic group as we move forward. We’re confident that more will join us. Perhaps it will become the 100 Grand Women Fund – imagine what we could do with a fund like that!
My heartfelt thanks to all who have joined us on this journey, and to all the other donors who supported Grand Bend Community Foundation during 2018. Thank-you for believing in the Foundation and working together to make our communities stronger and more vibrant.
